In this project I will propose a new design for an Hong Kong Residential Building which could eventually function for a case study in high density architecture. The concept proposed to solve these is to solve the social challenges of this location by creating a fully integrated building. Where stores, residential units and leisure spaces like parks can all be found throughout the building. This will promote social interaction with neighbors, and people from the streets, but in a more relaxed environment. So basically we bring the elements of the shopping street into the building. To ensure a good living quality, simulations will be done to find the optimum location for residential and commercial volumes. This is done by analysis of current sun paths. In this project I will propose a new design for an Hong Kong Residential Building which could eventually function for a case study in high density architecture. First I will talk about the context in Hong Kong, after which I will briefly discuss the problems encountered in this city and to which I want to provide a solution. The process which will offer that solution will be explained in the computational strategy. After which the research results are translated into a first schematic design.
After a small analysis of the context, which are Hong Kong, Mong Kok and the Building. Three specific callenges are found to be interesting for the project. This the social interaction between people, noise and air pollution and good daylight design.
Thirdly it is important to let the building blend in within its context. And play with the sound of the streets, by creating a shape of the building which is based on sound propagation of the cars and pedestrians. As well as using the pedestrian paths to determine logistical locations of the building.
These concepts are visualized with three different simulations. A daylight hour simulation, A point affinity simulation and traffic to geometry simulation.
