I chose the field of material opmization using Grasshopper and Ladybug and Honeybee. I recreated the canopy and using Galapagos and Lb and Hb scaled the openings to allow for maximum sunlight to the surface below. This was not achieved by scaling the openings because then galapagos would just make them as big as possible. That is why I chose to instead move the openings in the x and z direction. The angle towards the sun will in that case be optimized for sun entry. The finish up I added three hexagonal columns to support the structure and let Galapagos find the position that would allow for the most sunlight to hit the floor.
